Cypress wand from the Temple of Apollo
Length: 17 inches/44 cm.
Date of Collection: December 21st 2009
This wand was collected from the Temple of Apollo site at Delphi on the Winter Solstice of 2009. It was found among ancient tombs, under a 30-meter tall old cypress tree. We were so engrossed with the designs on the tombs that the wand seemed to appear before us as if by magic. Cypress is a difficult wood to gather as cypress trees do not tend to give up their branches easily, so we were very excited at this rare find. Cypress trees were often planted at burial sites because it was believed that they transported the soul to heaven.
The natural shape and colour of the wand have been preserved and a subtle clockwise spiral has been carved into the tip.
Cypress wood aids with past-life memories and provides personal protection. It is a pale wood dealing with death and mourning. It is used in creating magic circles to deal with spirits and enchanting containers to hold the spirits of things that have passed on. It is a conduit to other-worldly entities and is therefore good for ceremonial funeral rights. Complimenting this is the positive influence of Apollo, the god of light and the sun.
